PICASSO’S HORSE

Picasso’s horse will never set his foot upon the ground
near the boy who stands and looks upon a vacant world.
Which is the road that will never be taken?
What are the sights trapped in memory?
The map leads from immobility to a glance,
and freezes in the murky bluish light.
What is the horse?
A clue that might have gone out into the world.
What is the boy?
Something looking over the dream's shoulder.
